Hyd: Mamaearth Founder Ghazal Alagh Calls on Women to Build Purpose-Driven Businesses
Hyderabad, Aug. 4 (TNT): Mamaearth Founder Ghazal Alagh on Tuesday said Indian women entrepreneurs are redefining leadership by building businesses with purpose and creating solutions that address real consumer needs.
Addressing an interactive session on “From Idea to IPO – Building Beyond Boundaries”, organised by the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), Hyderabad Chapter, Alagh said entrepreneurship begins with identifying genuine problems and executing ideas with consistency.
Sharing the story behind Mamaearth, she said the company was born out of her personal experience as a first-time mother looking for safe products for her child.
Despite having no prior experience in the FMCG sector, she and her co-founder built the company from the ground up into one of India’s leading beauty and personal care brands, she said.
Alagh said identifying the right market opportunity had been the key to the company’s success, adding that building a successful business requires choosing the right category, solving a real consumer problem and maintaining consistent execution.
Advising aspiring entrepreneurs on fundraising, she said capital should be raised only when genuinely required and stressed that investors evaluate businesses based on their ability to scale sustainably.
Speaking from the perspective of an investor, Alagh said she assesses startups on the attractiveness of the business category, the strength of the business model, financial performance and the credibility of the founders.
Responding to a query on challenges faced by women entrepreneurs while seeking investments, she said the startup ecosystem had evolved significantly and encouraged aspiring women entrepreneurs to trust their instincts while considering advice from others.
Recalling her experience as a judge on Shark Tank India, Alagh described it as an enjoyable learning opportunity.
Earlier, FLO Hyderabad Chairperson Seetha Reddy said entrepreneurship is a journey of resilience, innovation and continuous learning, and noted that India is witnessing a phase of rapid growth driven by innovation and enterprise.
Highlighting National Handloom Day, she called for greater support to India’s handloom sector and said FLO Hyderabad had set up a Handloom Pavilion to promote traditional textiles and artisan livelihoods.
Seetha Reddy also announced that the Telangana Government has allotted 1,000 square yards of land near Shilparamam for the FLO Hyderabad chapter office and one acre at Bharat Future Park, describing it as a major milestone for the organisation.
