Fire Breaks Out at Yadadri Thermal Power Plant Unit-3 in Nalgonda Dist.; No Casualties Reported

Nalgonda (Telangana), May 17 (TNT): A fire broke out in Unit-3 of the 5×800 megawatt Yadadri Thermal Power Plant located at Veerlapalem in Damaracherla mandal in the district on Sunday afternoon..

No casualties were reported in the incident, police said here.

Unit-3 had only recently completed commercial operations on May 13 after successfully running continuously for 72 hours and generating an average output of 811.99 MW against its rated capacity of 800 MW.

According to preliminary information, the fire erupted in the turbine-driven boiler feed pump (TDBFP), a critical component in thermal power generation.

Plant personnel and officials managed to bring the situation under control using the in-house firefighting system.

Officials from Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TGGENCO), who inspected the site, said the fire was suspected to have been triggered by leakage of lubrication oil at the pump.

They stated that while control cables and valves sustained damage in the incident, major equipment such as turbines and boilers remained unaffected.

This is the second fire-related incident reported at the thermal power project, following a similar fire accident in Unit-1 last year.
