Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), Apr 16 (TNT): Eight devotees from Karnataka, including five women and a girl, were killed and 13 others injured in a ghastly road accident after a Bolero vehicle collided with a concrete mixer lorry at Chilakaladona village in Mantralayam mandal of Kurnool district in the early hours of Thursday.
According to officials, the victims were devotees from Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka travelling to Mantralayam for darshan when the mishap occurred around 3:30 am.
The injured are undergoing treatment at a nearby area hospital, while those critically injured have been shifted to Kurnool Government General Hospital (GGH) for advanced care.
Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer expressed anguish and directed the district administration to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured, while conveying condolences to the bereaved families.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock over the incident, reviewed the situation, and instructed officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.
He also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.
Minister for Education and IT Nara Lokesh termed the incident deeply distressing and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to assist the injured, while extending condolences to the victims’ families.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X, described the mishap as “deeply painful” and expressed condolences to the bereaved families, while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
He announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased and ₹50,000 to the injured.
