New Delhi, Apr 17 (TNT): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday said seizures related to poll violations in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have crossed ₹865 crore since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the ongoing Assembly elections and bye-elections.
According to an official press release, the seizures include cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals and freebies, with West Bengal accounting for ₹427 crore and Tamil Nadu ₹438 crore.
The Commission said enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance measures to ensure free and fair elections, deploying over 5,011 Flying Squad Teams (FSTs) and 5,363 Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) across the two states to monitor violations and respond swiftly to complaints.
The data, compiled under the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) from February 26 to April 17, reflects efforts to curb inducements and ensure violence-free and intimidation-free polls.
The Commission has also directed authorities to ensure that enforcement actions do not inconvenience ordinary citizens and said District Grievance Committees have been set up to address complaints.
It further urged citizens and political parties to report violations of the Model Code of Conduct through the C-Vigil module.
