Centre Invites Applications Under Medical Device Industry Strengthening Scheme

New Delhi, June 29 (TNT): The Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has invited applications from eligible entities under the Scheme for Strengthening of Medical Device Industry (SMDI) to promote domestic manufacturing, reduce import dependence and strengthen the medical devices value chain.

According to an official release, applications have been invited under two sub-schemes — the Marginal Investment Scheme for Reducing Import Dependence and the Medical Device Clinical Studies Support Scheme (MDCSS).

Under the Marginal Investment Scheme, selected applicants will be eligible for a one-time capital subsidy of up to ₹10 crore on a reimbursement basis for manufacturing key components, raw materials, finished medical devices and accessories aimed at reducing import dependence.

Under the Medical Device Clinical Studies Support Scheme, eligible applicants can receive financial assistance of up to ₹5 crore on a reimbursement basis for conducting clinical investigations, clinical performance evaluations, post-market follow-up studies and animal studies.

The Department said the initiative is aimed at encouraging indigenous manufacturing, promoting innovation and increasing the depth of value chains in India’s medical devices sector.

Applications can be submitted through the online portal till 6 pm on July 23, 2026.

The Department has advised applicants to refer to the detailed eligibility criteria, application procedure and other guidelines available on its official website before submitting proposals.
