ASRHMC and UARDT Partner to Secure the Cognitive Future of Rural Children

Tadepalligudem (Andhra Pradesh), April 23 (TNT) :A two-day awareness drive focusing on early childhood nutrition and brain development was conducted by ASR Homeopathic Medical College here on Thursday in collaboration with Umar Alisha Rural Development Trust as part of the 8th Poshan Pakhwada.

The campaign, aligned with the national theme of maximizing brain development in the first six years of life, reached thousands of caregivers through ten peripheral clinics and the ASRHMC hospital.

Addressing a seminar, Principal Prof. Dr. Ananda Kumar Pingali highlighted the importance of the first 1,000 days from conception to two years of age, stating that this period plays a crucial role in determining a child’s cognitive ability, immunity, and overall health.

He noted that a significant portion of brain development occurs by the age of six and stressed the need for proper nutrition and stimulation during early childhood.

The programme also emphasized the importance of maternal nutrition, particularly for lactating mothers, noting that the mother’s diet directly impacts the child’s development.

As part of the outreach, awareness sessions and health services were conducted in several villages, including Vallurupalle, Darsiparru, Pentapadu, Bodapadu, and Pippara. Activities included health screenings, educational programmes, and clinical services at peripheral OPDs.

The campaign also raised awareness about limiting screen exposure among young children, advising zero screen time for children below two years and encouraging family interaction and traditional activities.

Organisers said the initiative aims to strengthen awareness on child nutrition and healthcare practices in rural areas, in line with national health and development goals.
