AP to introduce monthly economic reports to track growth, improve governance: CM Naidu
Amaravati, July 14 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced that the state would introduce a Monthly Economic Report, becoming the first in the country to continuously monitor economic growth and strengthen governance through data-driven decision-making.
Addressing Ministers, secretaries and heads of departments at the Secretariat, Naidu said monthly assessments of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), revenue receipts and departmental performance would help identify gaps and enable timely corrective measures.
He said the initiative would also facilitate regular evaluation of the performance and skills of government employees to improve administrative efficiency.
The Chief Minister directed officials to focus on improving citizen satisfaction through better service delivery and advised senior officers to undertake regular field visits to understand ground realities and people’s grievances firsthand.
Expressing concern over the growing number of complaints against some departments, Naidu instructed officials to ensure zero pendency under the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) and examine whether changes in rules or laws were needed to permanently address recurring issues.
He said the Revenue Department had inherited a large number of land-related grievances from the previous government and noted that the state was distributing Pattadar Passbooks every month to resolve long-pending disputes. While several disputes had already been settled, about 72.7 lakh Pattadar Passbooks were yet to be distributed.
Highlighting the use of technology in governance, Naidu said Artificial Intelligence-based tools developed by the government had contributed to a 24 per cent increase in revenue collections across departments.
He added that Andhra Pradesh recorded nearly 20 per cent economic growth over 2017 levels during the previous year.
The Chief Minister said the government remained committed to protecting consumers by not increasing electricity tariffs during its tenure and had also implemented true-down adjustments, reducing power charges.
He said the state was promoting solar energy and induction cooking to minimise the impact of global energy uncertainties.
On irrigation, Naidu reaffirmed that the Polavaram Project would be completed and dedicated to the nation by March 2027.
He announced that Godavari waters would be released to Anakapalli through the Polavaram Left Main Canal on August 14, while Phase-I of the Veligonda Project would be dedicated to the nation on September 1. Timelines for completing 36 other priority irrigation projects would also be announced.
Reviewing the government’s performance, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh had regained its position as one of India’s preferred investment destinations after losing investor confidence during the previous administration.
He said the government had held 19 State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meetings and 57 Cabinet meetings, facilitating major investments and employment generation.
The Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh aimed to emerge as both an agriculture-led and industrially advanced state by leveraging its natural resources, including horticulture, minerals, rare earth elements, silica and Chimakurthy granite.
Naidu said the state possessed the technology, resources and expertise required for rapid development and stressed that effective implementation was the key challenge.
He announced that progress would henceforth be reviewed every month through the Monthly Economic Report and regular meetings with secretaries and heads of departments.
