BRICS trade unions adopt Hyderabad Declaration on workers’ rights, social security

Hyderabad, July 15 (TNT): Trade unions from BRICS member countries on Wednesday unanimously adopted the Hyderabad Declaration, reaffirming their commitment to workers’ rights, universal social security, inclusive growth, social dialogue and sustainable development.

The declaration was adopted at the valedictory session of the 15th BRICS Trade Union Forum (BTUF) Summit-2026, organised by the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) under India’s BRICS Presidency.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla called for greater trust, dialogue and cooperation among governments, employers and employees to build a humane, inclusive and sustainable future of work.

He said technological advancements, including artificial intelligence, should be harnessed to empower workers and create decent employment opportunities rather than widen inequalities.

Welcoming delegates from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and partner countries, the Governor said BRICS nations, which account for a significant share of the global population and economic output, have a key role in shaping a balanced and sustainable global economic order.

He noted that digital transformation, automation and artificial intelligence are reshaping labour markets worldwide and stressed the need to equip workers with new skills to meet emerging challenges.

The Governor also highlighted India’s efforts to expand social security coverage for workers in both the organised and unorganised sectors through various welfare initiatives.

Congratulating the organisers and delegates on the adoption of the Hyderabad Declaration, Shukla expressed confidence that it would provide renewed direction for protecting workers’ rights, strengthening social security and promoting sustainable development across BRICS nations.

The valedictory session was presided over by Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh President S. Mallesham.

Trade union representatives from Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa and India, along with delegates from BRICS partner countries, attended the summit.
