Indian Coast Guard Rescues Six Fishermen from Distressed Boat off Mangaluru Coast

New Delhi/Mangaluru, June 30 (TNT)” The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) rescued six fishermen from a distressed Indian fishing boat in a challenging search and rescue operation off the coast of Mangaluru on Monday.

According to the Coast Guard, ICGS Sachet intercepted a VHF radio distress call at around 4 p.m. from the Indian Fishing Boat Manju Matha, located about 33 nautical miles off the Suratkal coast, reporting severe flooding and hull damage caused by rough sea conditions.

Responding immediately, ICGS Sachet was diverted to the location and established contact with the distressed vessel.

Despite rough seas, strong winds and poor visibility, the Coast Guard crew carried out the rescue operation using remote-operated lifebuoys specially designed for adverse sea conditions.

All six fishermen were rescued safely by around 6 p.m., officials said.

The Coast Guard ship is proceeding to New Mangalore Port for the safe disembarkation of the rescued fishermen.

The Coast Guard said the operation underscored its commitment to safeguarding lives at sea and demonstrated the effective use of modern rescue equipment, training and operational preparedness in responding to maritime emergencies.
