Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar inaugurates GMRVF Skill Development Centre at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram Dist.
Bhogapuram (Vizianagaram Dist., Andhra Pradesh), Aug 16 (TNT): Spiritual leader and founder of the Art of Living Foundation, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar inaugurated the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF) Skill Development Centre here on Sunday.
Ravi Shankar interacted with trainees and staff at the centre and enquired about their aspirations and the training programmes being offered.
The centre, established as part of GMRVF’s community development initiatives, has the capacity to train up to 1,000 youth annually in industry-relevant and job-oriented skills, the Foundations said in a release here.
During his visit, the Spiritual leader also visited Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, where G.M. Rao, Chairman, GMR Group, briefed him on the airport’s development, infrastructure and vision as an aviation gateway for North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The Skill Development Centre combines classroom learning with hands-on practical training and is equipped with six modern classrooms, an IT laboratory, library, seminar hall, mess and dining facilities and training workshops.
A dedicated International Placements Wing will facilitate employment opportunities for trained youth in India and overseas.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Shankar said Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport had the potential to become a catalyst for the growth of North Andhra by creating opportunities in tourism, trade, investment, employment and entrepreneurship.
He appreciated the GMR Group’s efforts in developing the airport as a landmark for the region.
The Foundation CEO Ashwini Saxena said the Skill Development Centre was established to ensure that the growth around the airport creates opportunities for local youth in aviation, allied sectors and the wider economic ecosystem.
GMRVF has been implementing CSR initiatives in Bhogapuram focusing on health, wellbeing and livelihood development.
It has also initiated a Mobile Medical Unit to extend healthcare interventions to surrounding communities.
Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, developed and operated by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited, is envisioned as a key aviation and connectivity hub for North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
