PM Modi Urges IAS Officer Trainees to Adopt Citizen-Centric Governance

New Delhi, June 23 (TNT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted with 183 IAS officer trainees of the 2024 batch, who are currently serving as Assistant Secretaries in various Ministries and Departments of the Central Government, at Seva Teerth in New Delhi.

During the interaction, the officer trainees shared their experiences from field training and their assignments in different ministries.

Addressing the young officers, the Prime Minister said that after two years of field exposure and administrative learning, they now stand at a crucial stage where their decisions would influence not only their careers but also the lives of crores of citizens.

He emphasized that the true test of public service begins with handling real-life situations with integrity, sensitivity and commitment.

Modi urged the officers to dedicate themselves to nation-building with a strong sense of purpose, innovation and citizen-centric governance.

Stressing the importance of empathy in administration, he said every official file represents the aspirations, concerns and lives of citizens and should be treated with due sensitivity.

Invoking the mantra of “Nagrik Devo Bhava”, the Prime Minister called upon the officers to place citizens at the centre of every decision and ensure governance remains responsive, inclusive and compassionate.

Highlighting the need for a whole-of-government approach, Modi said major developmental challenges cannot be addressed in isolation and require effective coordination among departments to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, he said every policy and administrative decision over the coming decades should contribute towards building a developed India.

He identified Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India, manufacturing growth, energy security and employment generation for youth as key national priorities.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the transformation in governance over the past decade, noting the shift from a process-driven model to a results-oriented approach.

He underlined the increasing role of digital governance, artificial intelligence and technology in improving transparency and service delivery.

Emphasising data-driven governance, Modi said data should not be viewed merely as statistics but as a reflection of the lives, challenges and aspirations of millions of people.

He urged officers to regularly assess whether government policies are translating into tangible outcomes on the ground.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the growing participation of women in public administration, noting that more than 40 per cent of the current IAS batch comprises women officers.

Encouraging the trainees to continuously evaluate their contribution to nation-building, he said true satisfaction should come not from the positions they hold but from the measurable impact they create in people’s lives.

Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister P. K. Mishra, Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister Shaktikanta Das, Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan, DoPT Secretary Rachna Shah and LBSNAA Director Sriram Taranikanti were among those present during the interaction.
