Telangana to Build Rs. 2,400-Cre International Fruit Market Near Hyderabad: CM

Hyderabad, June 18 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced that the state government will establish an international-standard fruit market at an estimated cost of ₹2,400 crore in the eastern outskirts of Hyderabad.

Addressing a gathering after launching the ‘Vanamahotsavam-2026’ programme, the Chief Minister said the proposed fruit market would be developed over 240 acres and would serve as a major infrastructure project for the region.

He noted that areas such as LB Nagar, BN Reddy Nagar, Vanasthalipuram and Gurramguda had not witnessed adequate development in the past and said the government was now focusing on creating modern infrastructure in these localities.

Reddy also criticised the local MLA from LB Nagar, accusing him of misleading people on development issues.

Recalling his association with the region during his tenure as Member of Parliament from Malkajgiri, the Chief Minister said he enjoyed strong support from voters in LB Nagar and neighbouring areas.

He said the constituency was home to people from Nalgonda, Rangareddy and Mahabubnagar districts and held a special place for him.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to removing encroachments on lakes, tanks and other water bodies to prevent urban flooding and protect public interests.

Defending the actions of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), he said the agency was removing illegal encroachments while ensuring that legitimately owned homes and buildings were not affected.

Reddy said HYDRAA had already reclaimed encroached temple land in Vanasthalipuram and stressed that unchecked encroachments on lakes could result in severe flooding of residential colonies.

“The government will not spare encroachers,” he asserted.

Highlighting urban challenges faced by major Indian cities, the Chief Minister said Delhi was grappling with air pollution, Mumbai with flooding and Bengaluru with traffic congestion. He said the Telangana government was committed to making Hyderabad the most liveable city in the country.

The Chief Minister also announced adequate funding for the development of the Gurramguda Eco Park and said the government had successfully reclaimed encroached land through legal battles, including in the Supreme Court, for the project.

He said 424 acres at Gurramguda had been dedicated as a national park for public use and environmental conservation.
