Telangana Governor Calls Blood Donation Highest Form of Service, Urges People to Join Movement
Hyderabad, June 14 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Sunday described blood donation as the highest form of service to humanity and said there could be no greater gift than saving a human life through voluntary blood donation.
Inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp organised by the Telangana State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society at Lok Bhavan on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, the Governor said blood donation was a symbol of compassion, humanity and social responsibility.
“Every drop of donated blood offers hope, courage and a chance of survival to patients in need,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of charity in Indian culture, Shukla said blood donation is among the noblest forms of giving and lauded voluntary donors for saving lives without expecting any reward.
As President of the Telangana State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society, he appreciated the contributions of blood donors and said their efforts strengthened humanitarian values and reflected the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
The Governor called for expanding the blood donation movement to villages, towns, educational institutions and youth organisations and urged citizens, particularly youth and women, to make voluntary blood donation a regular practice.
Referring to this year’s World Blood Donor Day theme, “One Drop of Humanity – Give Blood, Save Lives,” he said blood donation transcends barriers of language, region, caste and religion and embodies the shared values of humanity.
Shukla also commended Red Cross representatives, doctors, paramedical staff, volunteers and corporate organisations for promoting awareness on blood donation and urged them to help transform it into a mass movement.
Reiterating his commitment to building a tuberculosis-free and drug-free Telangana, the Governor said coordinated efforts by the government, voluntary organisations, educational institutions, youth groups and civil society were essential to achieve the goal.
Special Chief Secretary to the Governor M. Dana Kishore said Shukla had been actively promoting initiatives related to tuberculosis eradication, drug abuse prevention and the expansion of Red Cross services across the state.
He said the Governor had taken steps to strengthen the Indian Red Cross Society and that more than 5,000 new members had been enrolled under various initiatives undertaken during the recent period.
On the occasion, the Governor presented awards to doctors, regular blood donors, organisers of blood donation camps and representatives of organisations supporting the Telangana Red Cross Society through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
Earlier, Shukla flagged off an awareness rally organised by the Telangana State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society near the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Statue on NTR Marg as part of the World Blood Donor Day observances.
Organised with the support of Larven Pharma, the rally and blood donation drive saw participation from around 2,500 NCC cadets and volunteers, who spread awareness on the importance of voluntary blood donation across the city.
Senior Red Cross functionaries, officials and representatives of supporting organisations were present.
