Technology, Real-Time Data Key to Efficient Policing, Says Telangana DGP
Hyderabad, June 8 (TNT): Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Monday stressed the need for effective utilization of technology and real-time data management to strengthen policing and criminal investigations across the state.
Addressing Station House Officers (SHOs) and officers from various police units through a video conference from the DGP Office, Anand said the Telangana Police had once been among the country’s leading forces in technology adoption but had fallen behind in certain areas due to inadequate utilization of available systems and gaps in field-level implementation.
“Technology is not merely about developing software applications. Its effectiveness depends on proper usage, continuous updating and real-time data management,” he said during a review meeting attended by senior police officials from across the state.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of digital policing applications, TG Cop platforms, technology-based policing tools, operational challenges and bottlenecks affecting field-level execution.
The DGP said developing digital systems alone would not be sufficient unless they are effectively implemented at the grassroots level.
He announced that a dedicated technical team has been constituted within the Police Department to oversee technological development, implementation, monitoring and resolution of technical issues.
The team will focus on identifying gaps in existing systems and ensuring faster deployment of solutions, he said.
Anand directed officers to ensure that all field-level information is updated in real time and that data available in police databases remains accurate, complete and current.
While several digital initiatives have already been launched, implementation levels have reached only around 60 per cent, falling short of expectations, he observed.
The DGP instructed police officers to make greater use of digital forensics, digital evidence management systems and technology-driven investigation tools to improve the speed and quality of criminal investigations.
He also directed officials to regularly update records under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) databases, NTR photo databases and other digital platforms.
According to the DGP, several applications and modules, including fitness examination systems and CD Part Hours monitoring tools, are not being utilized to their full potential.
Particularly addressing SHOs, Anand instructed them to ensure timely updating of all case-related information, including FIR details, crime records, CD Parts, Section 41 CrPC procedures, arrest information, Form-54 records, scientific evidence documentation and charge sheets.
He said proper and timely updating of data would significantly strengthen data-driven policing and improve decision-making.
The DGP added that effective use of real-time monitoring systems would facilitate crime analysis, trend assessment, monthly crime reviews and case monitoring.
Recalling Telangana Police’s earlier leadership role in technology-based policing initiatives at the national level, Anand expressed confidence that the department could once again emerge as a leader in digital policing through effective implementation and regular updating of existing systems.
The video conference was attended by Mahesh Bhagwat, V.V. Srinivasa Rao, Swati Lakra, senior police officers, district police officials, technical wing personnel and representatives from various police units.
