India Poised for Global Trade Leadership: Experts at FTCCI Conference

Hyderabad, Feb 6 (TNT): India is entering a decisive phase in its global trade journey and is well-positioned to emerge as a leading force in international commerce, experts said at a day’s conference on Business Resilience & Global Trade Management held here on Friday.

The conference, themed “Advancing Bilateral and Multilateral Trade Relations”, was organised by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) as part of the State Facilitation and Knowledge Support activities of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, with support from State Bank of India.

Addressing after inaugurating the conference, NITI Aayog member Arvind Virmani, said  India’s economic growth remains strong and is accelerating faster than the global average. He noted that employment growth is outpacing population growth, dismissing concerns over jobless growth, and highlighted India’s demographic advantage and rising role in global manufacturing.

Emphasising reforms such as labour codes, tax compliance, quality standards and Free Trade Agreements, Dr Virmani said India is well positioned to become an Upper-Middle-Income and eventually a High-Income Country, and could overtake Germany in the next two to three years.

Sanjay Kumar, Special Chief Secretary, Industries & Commerce and IT & E&C Department, Government of Telangana, said the state ranks sixth in export preparedness, with exports rising 36 percent to USD 19 billion in 2024–25 and IT exports expected to touch ₹3 lakh crore this year.

He highlighted infrastructure expansion, the state-led AI Hub, and new policy initiatives to boost exports.

S. Gangadhar, IFS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, said India has concluded nine trade agreements in six years, making FTAs central to economic resilience.

Other speakers attended in the conference highlighted the need for diversified trade partnerships and resilient, future-ready export ecosystems.

Over 150 participants from government, diplomacy, industry, and academia participated in the conference.
