AIG Hospitals lays foundation for 1,000-bed greenfield hospital in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, Aug 31 (TNT): AIG Hospitals on Monday laid the foundation stone for a 1,000-bed greenfield multispeciality hospital in Visakhapatnam, with the first phase of the project expected to be operational by October 2028.
The foundation stone was laid by Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resource Development and Information Technology, Nara Lokesh.
Assembly Speaker Ayyannapatrudu Chintakayala, Visakhapatnam MP Bharat Muthukumilli and Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao were among those present.
The hospital will be developed in two phases, the Hyderabad based Hospital said.
The first phase, comprising Towers A and B, will have 650 beds, while the second phase will add another 350 beds in Tower C over the following two to three years.
The campus will also house a nursing college, paramedic training centre, research laboratory, artificial intelligence (AI) centre and a 500-seat academic auditorium.
The hospital will offer more than 50 medical and surgical specialities and feature modular operating rooms, cath labs, advanced endoscopy suites, 150 critical care beds and a 50-bed emergency department.
The outpatient block will have capacity for around 5,000 consultations a day.
A dedicated 120-bed mother and child block, including a 15-bed neonatal intensive care unit, birthing suites and paediatric services, will also be established.
AIG Hospitals Chairman Dr D Nageshwar Reddy said the project was being designed as an integrated healthcare, academic and research ecosystem.
“Clinical excellence can only thrive when it is complemented by continuous academic activities and backed by research,” he said.
He said the project was aligned with the Andhra Pradesh government’s Swarnandhra Vision 2047 and would focus on providing equitable, accessible and affordable healthcare.
AIG Hospitals Vice-Chairman PVS Raju said the project was expected to generate around 9,000 jobs across clinical, technical, administrative and support functions.
The campus will also provide hostel accommodation for nursing staff, accommodation for visiting faculty and low-cost accommodation for patients’ families, he said.
At full operation, the hospital is expected to have 1,000 doctors on its rolls.
Dr Rakesh Kalapala, Director, AIG Hospitals Visakhapatnam, said AI would be integrated into clinical workflows, imaging, diagnostics and hospital operations from the outset.
The facility would help patients from nearby towns and cities access advanced healthcare closer to home, he added.
