Revanth Reddy Challenges KCR to Debate BRS’s 10-Year Rule in Assembly
Jadcherla (Mahabubnagar), June 5 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday challenged former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to a debate in the Assembly on the performance of the BRS government during its 10-year rule and the Congress government’s two-and-a-half years in office.
Addressing a public meeting here, Revanth Reddy said the Congress government was ready for an ‘open discussion’ on governance, development and the implementation of welfare programmes.
“If your name is truly KCR, come forward for a debate. Let us discuss. We are also ready to apologise if we are at fault,” the Chief Minister said.
Continuing his criticism of the previous BRS government, Revanth Reddy alleged that several major irrigation projects, including the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, remained incomplete despite substantial expenditure during the BRS regime.
He accused the previous government of mismanaging project funds and loans raised for irrigation works.
The Chief Minister said the people of the Palamuru region had given a strong mandate to the BRS with expectations of development but did not receive the promised irrigation benefits.
“Not a single major project was completed in Palamuru in ten years. Our lands did not receive irrigation water and our hardships remained unresolved,” he said.
Taking a swipe at the proposed BRS padayatra, Revanth Reddy remarked that party leaders could continue their march to Kashi and perform penance, claiming that the people had not forgotten the alleged failures of the previous government.
He further alleged that KCR, after winning elections from the Palamuru region, shifted his political focus elsewhere and neglected the district’s development needs.
Highlighting his government’s efforts, the Chief Minister said the Congress administration was committed to providing irrigation facilities to nearly 26 lakh acres in the region.
He claimed that while the previous government spent around ₹1 lakh crore on the Kaleshwaram project, it failed to adequately address the needs of Palamuru.
Revanth Reddy said the Congress government had spent around ₹8,000 crore on projects in the district within 30 months and was working to accelerate pending irrigation works.
” Predicting a poor electoral performance for the BRS in the region, the Chief Minister asserted that the people of Palamuru would reject the party in future elections”.
” “The Congress party will remain in power in Telangana until 2034″. We will return to power again in 2029. This is my challenge to KCR,” he declared.
The Chief Minister reiterated that securing approval for 90 TMC of water under the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and ensuring timely release of funds through a special “Green Channel” mechanism remained key priorities of his government.
Listing the government’s welfare initiatives, Revanth Reddy said 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses had been sanctioned, 50 lakh families were receiving 200 units of free electricity and 15 lakh ration cards had been distributed. He also said the government had spent ₹10,000 crore on free bus travel for women.
The Chief Minister highlighted ongoing investments in education, including plans to develop an education hub in Kodangal, and urged parents to prioritise education as the most effective means of improving the future prospects of their children.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to welfare and development, Revanth Reddy said the Congress administration would continue to focus on irrigation, housing, education and social welfare while ensuring inclusive growth across Telangana.
