President expresses grief over Sikkim tunnel tragedy, prays for safe rescue of trapped workers

New Delhi, July 21 (TNT): President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the tunnel collapse in Sikkim and extended her condolences to the bereaved families.

In a post on X, the President said she was “deeply saddened by the tragic loss of precious lives” in the tunnel collapse incident.

“My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy rescue and safe evacuation of the other workers and quick recovery of the injured,” she said.

At least 10 workers were killed and 15 others remained trapped after a landslide triggered the collapse of an under-construction tunnel of the Teesta Stage-VI Hydroelectric Project in Namchi district, with rescue operations continuing amid challenging conditions.
