Six held with 8.41 kg ganja in Hyderabad; supplier from Nagpur absconding
Hyderabad, July 20 (TNT) : Hyderabad Police arrested six persons and seized 8.410 kg of ganja, a motorcycle, weighing machines, a sealing machine, mobile phones and other material in a raid conducted under the limits of Attapur Police Station on Monday.
In a release, Police said the raid was carried out following specific information that a person would deliver ganja near Hanuman Temple on Bhopal Nagar Road in Attapur.
After recording the information under the provisions of the NDPS Act, a police team, accompanied by mediators and the Clues Team, laid a trap and intercepted six persons at the spot.
The arrested were identified as Mohd. Faizan Bakshi (19), the alleged main peddler, Syed Sadiq (40), the alleged sub-peddler, and four alleged purchasers — Ali Ahmed (55), Riyaz Ahmed Khan (22), Mohammed Jaffar (21) and Tausif Baig (22).
During the operation, police recovered 8.410 kg of dry ganja concealed in a luggage bag.
They also seized a motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the contraband, several mobile phones, electronic weighing machines, a sealing machine, packing material and other incriminating articles.
According to police, Faizan Bakshi allegedly disclosed during interrogation that he had procured the ganja from a supplier identified as Sailesh of Nagpur, Maharashtra, who is currently absconding, and supplied it to Syed Sadiq for further distribution. The remaining accused were allegedly present to purchase the contraband.
A case has been registered under Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The arrested persons were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, while efforts are on to apprehend the absconding supplier.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V. C. Sajjanar, Rajendranagar DCP S. Sreenivas, ACP T. Srinivas and Attapur SHO A. Seethaiah.
