DRI Seizes Over 24 Kg Narcotics in Kerala Under ‘Operation Chakravyuh’; Five Held

Kochi, May 30 (TNT): The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized more than 24 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, including methaqualone, methamphetamine and hashish oil, in a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations across Kerala under Operation Chakravyuh, officials said on Saturday.

The operations, carried out by the DRI’s Cochin Unit at Kochi, Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram, targeted drug trafficking networks involved in the illicit distribution and smuggling of narcotic substances.

According to officials, five persons, including key operatives linked to the trafficking syndicates, were arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The seized contraband was detected through multiple smuggling channels, including passenger baggage at airports, concealed courier consignments and outbound export cargo, highlighting the varied methods employed by traffickers.

The DRI said the operation forms part of its sustained efforts to dismantle organised drug trafficking networks and curb the movement of narcotic substances through the state.

Officials noted that during the last financial year, the DRI’s Cochin Zonal Unit seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances valued at approximately ₹70.76 crore across Kerala and arrested 21 persons in connection with various NDPS cases.

Reaffirming its commitment to combating the drug menace, the DRI said it would continue to intensify intelligence-driven enforcement actions to protect society from the harmful effects of narcotics and contribute to the Government of India’s vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” (Drug-Free India).
