Gandhinagar, Feb 5 (TNT) :The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) on Wednesday launched the AI Resilience and Command (ARC) Centre, a pioneering initiative aimed at strengthening data-driven climate-risk management and urban flood preparedness across Indian cities.
Located at the IIT Gandhinagar Research Park, the ARC Centre will leverage physics-consistent modelling and Artificial Intelligence to support real-time flood assessment, scenario analysis and operational decision support for urban systems.
The centre envisions an integrated “Rain to Resilience” framework, combining rainfall forecasting, flood modelling, mobility impacts and governance-oriented decision tools on a single AI platform.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr. Sangeeta Singh, Vigilance Commissioner of Gujarat; P. C. Vyas, Secretary, Water Resources Department; P. R. Patelia, Secretary, Roads and Buildings Department and M. D. Patel, Special Secretary, Water Resources Department, highlighting strong collaboration between academia and government in addressing climate challenges.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Amit Prashant, Dean (External Relations), IIT Gandhinagar, said the project has already received global appreciation following successful pilot implementation and holds strong potential to support cities and communities through anticipatory and coordinated responses to climate risks.
The decision-support tools at the ARC Centre are powered by AIResQ ClimSols Pvt. Ltd., an IIT Gandhinagar–incubated deep-tech company, enabling faster simulations, real-time flood prediction and ‘what-if’ scenario analysis while maintaining scientific rigour.
Developed through sustained translational research at the Machine Intelligence and Resilience (MIR) Lab with support from the AI Centre of Excellence – Sustainable Cities, the ARC Centre is envisioned as a next-generation hub for urban resilience, real-time flood intelligence and climate preparedness, contributing to safer cities and sustainable urban growth in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
