Telangana hikes Minimum Wages for 1.11 Crore Workers; Revised Pay Structure From June 1

Hyderabad, May 21(TNT): Telangana Chief Minister  A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced a major revision in minimum wages for workers across Telangana, stating that around 1.11 crore workers would benefit from the new wage structure, which will come into effect from June 1, 2026.

Addressing a media conference at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister said the decision was taken after the State government constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu to examine issues related to workers’ wages.

Reddy alleged that workers had suffered losses due to the negligence of the previous government and said the present government had taken a historic decision in the interest of labour welfare.

The State government has classified workers into four categories — unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled — while dividing Telangana into three wage zones comprising Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and rural areas.

Under the revised structure, the minimum wage for unskilled workers has been increased from Rs.12,750 to Rs.16,000 per month. For semi-skilled workers, wages have been raised from Rs.13,152 to Rs.17,000.

Similarly, wages for skilled workers have been enhanced from Rs.13,772 to Rs.18,500, while highly skilled workers will now receive Rs.20,000 against the earlier Rs.14,607.

The Chief Minister described the move as the first major pro-worker decision taken after the formation of Telangana and congratulated workers on behalf of the State government.

Referring to Minister for labour G. Venkataswamy,  Reddy said labour welfare remained a key priority for the government.

The Chief Minister also urged youth to move beyond the perception that opportunities existed only in the IT sector or abroad, particularly in the United States.

He stressed the importance of skill development and vocational education, noting that countries such as Germany, Japan and Singapore offered substantial opportunities for technically skilled youth.

Reddy said the Telangana government had established a Skills University to improve employability and encourage youth to pursue skill-based careers.
