Telangana CM Targets BJP, BRS Over Farmers, POCSO Case and Caste Census Politics
Hyderabad, May 21 (TNT): Escalating his attack on both the BJP and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday accused the saffron party of politicising public issues and international conflicts, while alleging that the BRS was indulging in “corpse politics” over farmers’ issues and criminal cases.
Addressing a media conference at the Secretariat, The Chief Minister alleged that the BJP-led Union Government raises petrol and diesel prices immediately after elections and approaches governance through a political lens rather than with long-term vision.
“In contrast, our government examines every issue with a long-term perspective. That is why we have increased minimum wages for workers,” Reddy said, referring to the State government’s decision to revise wages for nearly 1.11 crore workers from June 1.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came amid intensifying political exchanges between the ruling Congress, BJP and BRS over law and order, farmers’ issues and caste census politics in Telangana.
Targeting K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi leadership, Reddy accused the opposition party of exploiting sensitive issues involving farmers for political mileage.
“If the opposition genuinely cares about farmers, they should offer constructive suggestions instead of stooping to such levels for politics,” he said.
Referring to the recent POCSO case involving Bandi Sai Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Chief Minister defended police action and asserted that due legal procedure was followed in the case.
He criticised both BJP and BRS leaders for attempting to politicise the matter and said electoral battles should be fought democratically rather than through what he termed “disgraceful politics”.
Drawing a comparison with an earlier alleged drug-related case linked to relatives of K.T. Rama Rao, Reddy said notices were issued and investigations conducted in that matter as well, indicating that the law was being applied uniformly.
The Chief Minister also sharpened his attack on former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), remarking that KCR appeared to still function under a “Kalvakuntla Constitution” despite being out of power.
Questioning KCR’s silence on recent developments in the State, Reddy said the former Chief Minister attended a party programme in Jagtial but avoided responding to major incidents affecting Telangana.
On the politically sensitive issue of caste census, the Chief Minister welcomed the Supreme Court’s observations and projected Telangana as a national model for conducting a caste survey alongside the population census.
Reddy urged the Narendra Modi-led Union Government to include caste census in the national census exercise and ensure equitable representation for weaker sections across sectors, signalling Congress’ attempt to sharpen its social justice plank ahead of future electoral battles.
