Hyderabad, May 12 (TNT): Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha on Tuesday distributed appointment letters to 1,919 Nursing Officers recruited into the Health Department at a programme held at the Osmania Medical College grounds in Koti.
Extending greetings on the occasion of International Nurses Day, the Minister congratulated the newly appointed Nursing Officers and described nursing as “not merely a profession, but a great opportunity to serve humanity”.
He said nurses not only provide treatment but also offer courage, reassurance and hope to patients and their families.
Paying tribute to Florence Nightingale, Damodar Rajanarsimha said nurses should draw inspiration from her ideals of cleanliness, discipline and scientific medical care.
Recalling the Covid-19 pandemic, the Minister said nurses had rendered tireless service even in the most difficult circumstances when family members themselves were unable to remain beside patients.
He said the state government had prioritised filling vacancies in government hospitals and undertaken large-scale recruitments to reduce pressure on existing medical staff.
According to the Minister, nearly 13,000 posts have been filled in the Health Department over the past two-and-a-half years.
He said the government had earlier distributed appointment letters to 1,257 Lab Technicians, 623 Civil Assistant Surgeon Specialists and 132 Assistant Professors.
“With today’s appointments, the government has filled nearly 9,000 nursing posts within two-and-a-half years,” he said, adding that recruitment for another 5,000 posts was currently underway.
The Minister said results for around 2,000 ANM posts would be announced within the next one or two days, while recruitment for 732 Pharmacist posts delayed due to legal reasons would also be completed soon.
Highlighting efforts to strengthen nursing education, Damodar Rajanarsimha said the government had established 16 new government nursing colleges over the past two years, adding 960 BSc Nursing seats.
He said students in government nursing colleges were also being trained in English, German and Japanese languages to help them secure employment opportunities abroad.
The Minister further said the government was taking steps to establish a separate Nursing Directorate for the welfare and professional development of nurses in the state.
He added that annual training and skill upgradation programmes would be conducted to help nurses adapt to advancements in the medical field.
Calling upon the newly appointed Nursing Officers to serve with compassion, discipline and moral values, the Minister said the government’s objective was to provide better healthcare services to every citizen and urged nurses to become partners in achieving that goal.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, MLCs Addanki Dayakar and Mirza Rahmath Baig, senior officials and Health Department representatives attended the event.
