Hyderabad, May 3 (TNT): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Sunday accused the Telangana government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of committing a “grave injustice” to nearly 14 lakh students through its fee reimbursement policy.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, KTR alleged that Government Order (GO 7) was a “deliberate attempt” to weaken the fee reimbursement scheme, which supports students from BC, SC, ST and minority communities in pursuing higher education.
He claimed that the move would deprive lakhs of economically weaker students of educational opportunities and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the order along with a public apology from the government.
Highlighting financial concerns, the BRS leader said the government had failed to clear pending fee reimbursement dues of nearly ₹10,000 crore over the past two-and-a-half years, affecting more than 2,500 educational institutions and causing difficulties for students in continuing their education.
He also accused the government of delaying resolution of the issue through committees and partial releases instead of clearing dues in full.
Recalling the origins of the scheme under former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and its continuation in Telangana under K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) , he questioned the intent behind weakening what he described as a key welfare initiative.
Warning of protests, he said the BRS would intensify agitation if the government failed to address the issue and protect the future of students.
