Amaravati, Apr 14 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday inaugurated India’s first open-access quantum reference facility centres in Amaravati, marking a significant step towards positioning Andhra Pradesh as a hub for quantum technology.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility-1 at SRM University AP and virtually launched Facility-2 at Medha Towers in Gannavaram on the occasion of World Quantum Day and the birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar.
Stating that technology should empower every citizen, Naidu said the state government is committed to developing an indigenous quantum computer from Amaravati and assured that there would be no shortage of funds for innovation.
He called upon public universities to compete with private institutions in promoting innovation and startups.
He said the launch of the quantum testbeds would help Andhra Pradesh emerge as India’s first quantum technology hub, adding that there is a need to build a robust ecosystem by bridging gaps in infrastructure, talent and research.
Describing the facilities as advanced hardware testbeds, the Chief Minister said they would enable validation, benchmarking and certification of quantum systems under real operating conditions, providing a platform to build, test and refine quantum technologies within the country.
Naidu highlighted that multiple premier institutions, including Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Science and Defence Research and Development Organisation, along with industry partners, contributed to the project, marking a milestone in developing a largely indigenous quantum ecosystem.
He said quantum technology presents a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” for India to advance in hardware and innovation, with applications ranging from drug discovery to agriculture and industrial optimisation.
Calling for wider participation in innovation, Naidu said entrepreneurship should become a mass movement and emphasised that innovation must extend across society.
Senior officials, scientists and industry representatives, including Abhay Karandikar, attended the event.
