Hyderabad, Mar 18 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Wednesday said the state’s power network is fully prepared to handle demand of up to 19,000 MW amid rising consumption during the Yasangi crop season and summer.
Reviewing the preparedness of the power sector at a meeting held at the Assembly, Bhatti directed officials to remain vigilant and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the state.
He said power demand has been steadily rising, noting that the previous peak demand of 17,162 MW recorded on March 20 last year has already been surpassed this year. Demand touched 17,606 MW on March 2 and further increased to 18,228 MW on March 13, with consumption reaching 341.08 million units.
Despite the sharp rise, Bhatti said power utilities have managed the situation efficiently without supply interruptions or overloading issues, and appreciated the efforts of electricity department staff.
He said the government is strengthening infrastructure by setting up new substations, transmission lines and transformers to meet future demand and ensure reliability even if consumption crosses 19,000 MW.
The Deputy Chief Minister instructed officials to remain alert till the end of the Yasangi season and summer, ensuring uninterrupted supply to farmers, Greater Hyderabad consumers and all sectors.
The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Naveen Mittal, Telangana Transco CMD Krishna Bhaskar, DISCOM CMDs Musharraf Faruqui, Jitesh V. Patil, Varun Reddy and other officials.
