Hyderabad to host BRICS Labour Ministers’ meet on July 15-16
Hyderabad, July 14 (TNT): India will host the 12th BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting (LEMM) in Hyderabad on July 15 and 16, bringing together labour ministers and senior officials from BRICS member countries to discuss cooperation on labour, employment and worker welfare.
The meeting, one of the key ministerial engagements under India’s BRICS Chairship in 2026, will be chaired by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
It is being held under the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS).”
The ministerial meeting follows the third BRICS Employment Working Group (EWG) meeting held in Hyderabad on July 13 and 14, during which member countries exchanged best practices and discussed a draft declaration to be considered by the ministers.
The deliberations will focus on four priority areas—expanding social security and formalisation of labour markets, enhancing women’s participation in the workforce, strengthening cooperation in employability and skills development, and leveraging digital technologies for all workers, including gig and platform workers.
The ministers are expected to share national experiences on social protection reforms, labour market formalisation, skilling initiatives and inclusive employment models, while exploring practical and replicable policy approaches to address evolving labour market challenges.
The meeting aims to strengthen cooperation among BRICS countries in promoting decent work, expanding social protection, improving workforce skills and preparing labour markets for emerging technological and economic changes.
It is also expected to contribute to a forward-looking agenda on labour, employment and worker welfare across the BRICS bloc.
