New Delhi, Mar 12(TNT): Monash University and Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), part of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, have partnered to introduce a new dual-degree programme that will allow Indian engineering students to study in both India and Australia.
Starting August 2026, eligible Bachelor of Technology students at MIT will begin their studies in India before transferring to Monash University for the final two years of the programme in Australia.
Upon completion, students will receive two degrees — one from MIT and another from Monash University.
The initiative is aimed at expanding global education pathways for Indian students while equipping them with international exposure and industry-relevant engineering skills. The dual-degree programme will initially cover software engineering and chemical engineering.
Craig Jeffrey, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) and Vice-President at Monash University, said the partnership reflects the institution’s commitment to building global academic opportunities for future engineers.
Students will undertake foundational coursework at MIT before progressing to advanced study at Monash, where they will gain exposure to global research, technology and engineering practices.
Up to 60 students per year will be eligible to transfer to the Australian campus, subject to meeting academic and visa requirements.
In chemical engineering, students will study areas such as process design, reaction engineering, process control and particle technology, alongside project-based learning focused on real-world industrial applications.
Meanwhile, software engineering students will undertake coursework in areas including cybersecurity, operating systems, cloud computing, software architecture and artificial intelligence-enabled software systems.
Anil Rana, Director of MIT, said the collaboration will help students gain international academic exposure while maintaining a structured pathway toward earning globally recognised engineering degrees.
Faculty members at Monash noted that the programme aligns with growing global demand for engineers equipped with advanced digital skills, sustainable technology expertise and practical industry knowledge.
The partnership builds on Monash University’s broader engagement with India, including its collaboration with the IITB-Monash Research Academy and several research initiatives in areas such as artificial intelligence, energy, transport and sustainable infrastructure.
The programme has been supported through funding from the Yes to International Students Fund, an initiative of the Government of Victoria in Australia.
