Telangana Govt Plans Ring Roads Around Major District HQs

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (TNT): The Telangana government is planning to construct ring roads around major district headquarters to ease traffic congestion and improve the movement of goods and heavy vehicles.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy , who conducted a review meeting of the Roads and Buildings (R&B) and Transport departments at his Jubilee Hills residence here, directed officials to prepare plans for the proposed ring roads and integrate them with the existing road network. He said the ring roads should help divert heavy vehicles away from district headquarters while improving connectivity.

The Chief Minister also discussed the development of radial roads linking district headquarters to the proposed ring roads.

Reddy asked officials to conduct a study on connecting the ring roads with national highways and to explore the possibility of developing a greenfield road linking the Hyderabad–Vijayawada Expressway with Nagarjuna Sagar.

He directed officials to expedite the construction of sanctioned Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) and to prepare proposals for additional bridges if required.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of teaching hospitals and major hospital projects and asked officials to ensure their early completion.

Emphasising pollution-free transport, he instructed officials to purchase only electric vehicles (EVs) for government use and said vehicles hired for official purposes in the CURE region should also be electric.

Reddy also called for the introduction of an online system in the Transport Department to replace manual processes and directed officials to construct permanent Regional Transport Office (RTO) buildings instead of operating from rented premises.

He stressed the need to create awareness on road safety through short films and asked officials to prepare plans for a modern bus terminal near the proposed high-speed rail corridor at Shamshabad.

The meeting was attended by R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, and senior officials.
