Pithapuram to be developed as model constituency : AP Dy CM Pawan Kalyan
Kakinada, Sept 22 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday said efforts were underway to develop Pithapuram constituency as a model region in the country, with a focus on roads, drinking water, drainage, transport and other infrastructure.
Addressing a public meeting at the conclusion of his two-day tour of the constituency, he said development works worth several crores had been completed during the past two years, while several other projects were under implementation.
More than 600 CC and BT roads had been completed and works on another 202 roads were being taken up, he said.
Pawan Kalyan said a protected drinking water scheme at Nagulapalli in Uppada Kothapalli mandal had been modernised at a cost of Rs 10 crore, providing water supply to over 97,000 people.
Under the Rs 320-crore Jal Jeevan Mission and Amarajeevi Jaladhara schemes, protected water supply was being extended to villages, while drinking water projects worth Rs 140 crore were under execution in Pithapuram and Gollaprolu municipalities under AMRUT 2.0 and with support from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
He said an underground drainage system would be developed in Pithapuram town at a cost of Rs 225 crore, along with two sewage treatment plants with a combined capacity of 72 lakh litres.
A Rs 323-crore protective wall was also being taken up along the Uppada coast to address coastal erosion, with the Centre having accorded the required clearance. The design and survey had been completed by an IIT Madras team and work would commence soon, he said.
Permission had also been received from the Railways for a Rs 118-crore road overbridge under the PM Gati Shakti programme, he added.
Other proposed projects include a Rs 100-crore Ayush medical college, railway station development at a cost of Rs 37 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and a modern bus stand costing Rs 20 crore.
Pawan Kalyan said he would continue his efforts until Pithapuram was developed as a model constituency and expressed hope that the coalition government would be further strengthened in the coming days.
