6.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Southern Philippines; No Tsunami Warning Issued
Manila/New Delhi, June 26 (TNT): A strong earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck off the southern coast of the Philippines on Friday evening, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The quake occurred at 7.42 p.m. local time (1142 GMT) at a depth of 65.7 km, with its epicentre located about 21 km southwest of Sarangani town on Mindanao island.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, and no tsunami warning was issued following the tremor.
The latest quake comes less than three weeks after a major earthquake in the same region claimed more than 80 lives.
Meanwhile, rescue operations continued in Venezuela following two powerful earthquakes that struck the country earlier this week.
Acting President Delcy Rodríguez said the confirmed death toll had risen to 589, while 2,980 people were injured.
