47 Cybercrime Accused Arrested in August: Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police
Hyderabad, Sep 8 (TNT) : Hyderabad City Cyber Crime Police arrested 47 persons from seven states in connection with 36 cybercrime cases during August 2026 and refunded Rs 99.79 lakh to victims, police said on Tuesday.
The Cyber Crime Police Station received multiple complaints through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), based on which 65 FIRs were registered during the month.
Of the 47 accused arrested, 16 were involved in investment fraud, 12 in trading fraud, seven in social media-related fraud, three each in OTP fraud and impersonation, and two each in job and credit card fraud.
One person each was arrested in APK and advertisement fraud cases.
The arrests were made across Telangana (15), Andhra Pradesh (14), Delhi (8), Maharashtra (4), Karnataka (4), Haryana (1) and Uttar Pradesh (1), the Cyber Crime Police said in a release.
Police seized 28 mobile phones, three cheque books, three SIM cards, a debit card, laptop, router, hard disk and an iPad during the operations.
According to the refund details, victims in 34 cases reported losses of Rs 17.77 crore, of which Rs 99.79 lakh was refunded.
Trading fraud cases accounted for the highest refund of Rs 57.96 lakh.
The Zonal Cyber Cells received 2,952 NCRP petitions during the month, registered 349 FIRs and arrested 20 persons in 16 cases. Rs 41.05 lakh was refunded to victims, police said.
As part of cyber patrol enforcement, police identified 231 Facebook and Instagram profiles involved in paid advertisements promoting objectionable content involving minors and various fraudulent schemes.
The profiles were reported to the respective social media platforms and taken down.
Police said a cumulative 1,317 social media profiles and 2,573 paid advertisements promoting online gaming, illegal betting and fake investment websites had been identified and taken down, with nine FIRs registered against promoters.
Under the C-Mitra initiative, police made 2,043 calls to victims to provide assistance and guidance and registered 290 Zero FIRs based on complaints received during August.
In a trading fraud case, a victim lost Rs 25.50 lakh after his mobile phone was lost while travelling from Abids Bus Stand. Police arrested three persons in the case and seized four mobile phones.
Police advised citizens to remain vigilant against fake profiles of government officials, fraudulent investment schemes, malicious APK files, phishing links, WhatsApp DP fraud, matrimonial and sextortion scams and “digital arrest” scams.
Citizens who fall victim to cyber fraud have been advised to immediately contact the cybercrime helpline 1930 or report the incident through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
