Hyderabad, Apr 24 (TNT): Members of the Arya Vysya community on Friday expressed gratitude to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the state government and officials for declaring Vasavi Matha Jayanthi as an official State Festival.
The Arya Vysya Officials and Professionals Association (AVOPA), Telangana, termed the decision a historic move recognising the community’s cultural heritage, values and devotion to Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari.
Addressing a press conference at Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) here, community leaders said the decision reflects respect for the sentiments of millions and strengthens the state’s inclusive cultural fabric.
They also thanked Endowments Minister Konda Surekha for her role in the initiative.
The leaders urged the government to also declare ‘Self Sacrifice Day (Aathmarpana Dinotsavam)’ as an official state observance.
They noted that Andhra Pradesh has already declared both the Jayanthi and the Self Sacrifice Day for official observance, and expressed hope that Telangana would follow suit.
Vasavi Matha Jayanthi, observed on Vaisakha Shukla Paksha Dashami, marks the birth anniversary of Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari, revered by the Arya Vysya community across India.
The occasion symbolises values such as non-violence, righteousness and self-sacrifice.
A major celebration is scheduled at Ravindra Bharathi on April 26, where the Chief Minister, ministers and senior officials are expected to participate.
Speakers highlighted the contributions of the Vyshya community to India’s economic and social development, particularly in trade, commerce and entrepreneurship, as well as their role in the freedom movement.
They said the recognition of the festival underscores its cultural importance and honours the traditions of over 20 lakh Vyshyas in Telangana.
AVOPA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting cultural values, social harmony and community service in line with the teachings of Vasavi Matha.
