Ugandan national deported from Hyderabad for overstaying visa, links with drug peddlers alleged
Hyderabad, Aug 12 (TNT): The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has apprehended and deported a 36-year-old Ugandan national for allegedly overstaying in India and associating with drug peddlers and indulging in unlawful activities, police said on Wednesday.
The woman, identified as Nabanjja Sharon, was found wandering suspiciously within the limits of Tolichowki Police Station and was apprehended by the H-NEW team, said Vaibhav Raghunath Gaikwad, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force/HNEW/H-FAST, Hyderabad City, in a release here.
During enquiry, she allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or valid documents regarding her stay in Hyderabad.
She subsequently admitted that she did not possess a valid visa and had been staying in India after the expiry of her visa, police said.
According to police, Sharon arrived in India on an e-Tourist Visa on March 6, 2019, landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. She later moved to Bengaluru in search of employment and worked in petty jobs.
Police said she subsequently came into contact with drug associates and became involved with drug peddlers and other illegal activities in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, allegedly with the intention of making easy money and leading a lavish lifestyle.
Her tourist visa expired on May 4, 2019, while her passport remains valid until November 23, 2027, police said.
Following the enquiry, H-NEW initiated the deportation process through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Hyderabad. Her biometric details were obtained and her visa status was verified, following which an exit permit was secured from the FRRO.
Police said she was also blacklisted from entering India in the future.
A travel ticket was booked from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, and she was escorted to the airport by an H-NEW team before being deported to Uganda on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out by H-NEW Inspectors P. Sridhar and M. Madhu Babu and their staff.
Police also appealed to the public to remain vigilant about drug abuse and urged parents to monitor the activities of their children to prevent them from falling prey to narcotics.
H-NEW urged citizens to share information related to drug abuse with its team at 8712661601 and called for collective efforts towards a drug-free Hyderabad.
