TRAI launches Network Anubhav platform to help consumers assess telecom services
The platform integrates consumer-generated test data from TRAI’s MySpeed and MyCall applications with data from independent drive tests conducted by the regulator, providing information on network performance across different locations, service providers and technologies.
Through geospatial maps, consumers can view mobile and fixed broadband test results, including download and upload speeds, and analyse network performance using location-based filters, supporting tables and downloadable reports.
The dashboard provides percentile-based speed measurements, including median speed (P50), besides P80 for mobile broadband and P90 for fixed broadband.
In a release, TRAI clarified that consumer-generated test results do not constitute a comprehensive assessment of network quality under standardised testing methodology but offer insights into the experiences of users in different locations.
The platform also provides telecom service providers access to consumer-generated data on call quality, network coverage and internet performance through a secure interface, enabling them to identify areas requiring further analysis and network improvements.
TRAI can use the aggregated information for evidence-based monitoring of consumer experience and improving network performance.
The platform also integrates Do Not Disturb (DND) services through a web interface, allowing consumers to register preferences for commercial communications, lodge complaints against unsolicited commercial messages and calls, track complaint status and access consolidated and service-provider-wise complaint information.
TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said the platform would bring greater transparency to network test results generated by consumers and the regulator, empower users to analyse location-specific service performance and help telecom operators identify areas requiring network optimisation.
TRAI has also introduced a MySpeed software development kit (SDK), enabling eligible third-party applications to integrate connectivity measurement facilities and expand the volume of real-world network data.
Consumers can access the platform at https://anubhav.trai.gov.in and contribute network test data through TRAI’s MySpeed and MyCall applications.
