TGSRTC suspends JBM electric bus services over safety concerns

Hyderabad, July 2 (TNT): The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) on Thursday announced the temporary suspension of operations of all JBM electric buses across the state, citing passenger safety concerns following recurring incidents involving high-voltage battery systems.

The decision comes after another incident involving a JBM electric bus, even before the final investigation report into the June 21 electric bus fire near Alugunur in Karimnagar district was submitted.

In a statement , the Corporation said it has directed JBM to submit a comprehensive report detailing the causes of the incidents, permanent corrective measures, battery fitness certification and a proposal for establishing a Command Control Centre at Hyderabad’s Bus Bhavan to monitor the electric bus fleet.

The corporation said JBM has deployed its technical team along with battery experts from China to investigate the incidents and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.

According to TGSRTC, the suspended electric bus services will resume only after JBM’s technical team certifies the buses as “Fit for Operation” and a team of senior TGSRTC officials is satisfied that all prescribed safety standards and operational conditions have been fully complied with.

Reiterating that passenger safety remains its highest priority, the corporation said it would not compromise on safety standards in public transport and would restore the services only after ensuring the fleet is completely safe for operation.
