TGBIE rejects irregularities charge, says 65 colleges submitted fake fire safety NOCs

Hyderabad, Oct 25 (TNT):  The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has rejected allegations of irregularities in the junior college affiliation process, stating that inspections had found 65 colleges submitting fake Fire Safety No Objection Certificates (NOCs).

In a rejoinder and fact sheet issued on Saturday, the Board said 3,241 junior colleges across Telangana had completed the prescribed process and received formal admission permissions for the current academic year, against 3,349 affiliated colleges in 2025-26.

Twelve colleges were under evaluation for shifting premises or completing documentation, with affiliation and access to the Special Admission Module to be granted upon full compliance, it said.

The Board said 27 colleges had voluntarily sought NIL admissions after recording zero student enrolments. It maintained that affiliation could not legally be granted to an institution without student enrolment in its first year.

Rejecting allegations of favouritism towards corporate educational institutions, the TGBIE said it had imposed financial penalties exceeding Rs 4 crore on corporate colleges between July and October 2026 for various regulatory violations.

The Board said inspections and task force operations were part of routine administrative procedures to verify infrastructure, institutional standards and student safety, and were not intended to harass college managements.

It added that a High-Level Compliance Committee had been constituted to streamline administrative procedures and help colleges meet the prescribed requirements.

The Board was also considering publishing details of institutional deficiencies on its official website to improve transparency. It warned college managements against submitting false documents or exerting pressure on the regulatory authority to secure approvals in violation of prescribed norms.

The TGBIE urged college managements and associations to comply with statutory requirements and fire safety standards and use the admission facility in accordance with established procedures.
