Telangana’s Singareni wins first prize in underground mine rescue category at international competition in Zambia

Hyderabad, May 6 (TNT): State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has secured first prize in the Underground Mines Rescue category at the International Mines Rescue Competitions held in Zambia, reaffirming its expertise in mine rescue operations at the global level.

The competitions were conducted from April 30 to May 5 with participation from rescue teams representing several countries, including India, China, Colombia, Zambia, Canada, Australia and Poland, the Mining company said in a release here.

Teams from Coal India Limited, SCCL and other Indian companies also participated.

According to SCCL, the underground rescue competition assessed teams on firefighting, rescue operations and technical support.

The Singareni team excelled in all categories and secured the top position.

As part of the event, a 90-minute technical test was conducted at the Mopani Central Training Centre in Mufulira.

Representing SCCL, Ch. Sai Krishna reportedly completed the assigned task in 52 minutes by rectifying and refilling a carbon dioxide absorbent canister.

In another event held at the West Portal Mine, participating teams were tasked with locating and rescuing two trapped individuals from an underground mine at a depth of 700 metres.

While two hours were allotted for the operation, the Singareni team completed the rescue in 52 minutes.

The team carried out several operations, including installation of an L-bend in a pump, shutdown of a substation, locating victims using the mine plan, reviving an unconscious person and transporting an injured individual safely to the surface following prescribed rescue procedures.

The entire exercise was monitored by an international panel of judges, who appreciated the Singareni team for its coordination, discipline and timely execution of tasks.

Congratulating the team, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Buddhaprakash Jyothi described the achievement as a proud moment for the organisation and appreciated the team’s performance at the international level.

He also congratulated the WCL rescue team of Coal India Limited.

The Singareni rescue team was trained at the Ramagundam Mines Rescue Station under the leadership of General Manager (Rescue) Srinivas Reddy.

The team comprised G. Pramod Kumar, B. Nithin Kumar, N. Bhanu Prasad, A. Shyam Kumar, R. Srikanth, Ch. Sai Krishna and translator G. Rajender Reddy.

SCCL official Dr Rajeshwar was also invited by the international organisers to serve as a judge in the First Aid category.
