Telangana’s Singareni Seeks Odisha’s Support for Power Plant near Naini coal mine
During a meeting with Angul District Collector Mohammad Abdaal Akhtar, the SCCL CMD discussed land requirements for a proposed thermal power plant near the Naini coal mine, a rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) colony for project-affected families and roads for coal transportation.
The Collector responded positively to the proposals, the Mining company said in a release.
The CMD sought suitable land for an R&R colony for 40 families displaced by the Naini coal mine and requested an early meeting of the Rehabilitation and Periphery Advisory Committee (RPDAC) to decide on the rehabilitation package, land acquisition and related matters.
Singareni has identified land in Tukuda and Jarapada villages for the proposed thermal power plant and sought the Collector’s assistance in acquiring the required land.
The company has already deposited Rs 35 crore towards the proposed bypass road connecting Chandipara and Jarapada villages, which would facilitate transportation of coal from the Naini block to the nearby Jarapada railway junction.
The CMD sought the concerned departments’ support for expediting the road project, which could also serve other coal-producing industries.
He also requested suitable land for a Singareni office and staff colony in Odisha and sought assistance for constructing the Majhika bypass road to transport coal without inconveniencing local residents.
The company has offered to provide the funds required for land acquisition for the road.
The District Collector assured the company of necessary cooperation, stating that the district would support Singareni’s efforts to contribute to the country’s power requirements.
Earlier, Buddhaprakash Jyoti, along with company Directors Gowtam Potru and L.V. Suryanarayana, Executive Director (Coal Movement) B. Venkanna and General Manager (Coordination) T. Srinivas, visited Jindal’s coal gasification plant in Angul district.

Coal from Singareni’s Naini mine is also supplied to the Jindal plant. Naini General Manager Baidya and other officials were present during the visit.
