Telangana Police moves to set up Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau
Hyderabad, July 15 (TNT): Telangana Police has initiated the process of establishing a dedicated Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau to strengthen road safety measures and reduce accidents across the state.
Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting with senior police officers to review the proposed bureau’s organisational structure, functions, staffing pattern, legal framework and administrative mechanism.
The meeting also discussed the bureau’s role in traffic management, accident prevention, enforcement strategies and coordination with various stakeholder departments.
Officials reviewed the state’s road safety scenario, best practices adopted by other states, Supreme Court guidelines, Union government directives and existing government orders relating to traffic management and road safety.
The DGP directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the proposed bureau, emphasising the need for a coordinated and scientific approach to improving road safety.
He stressed the importance of strengthening inter-departmental coordination, enhancing traffic enforcement, analysing accident data and creating sustained public awareness on road safety.
Anand said another review meeting would be held shortly to finalise the bureau’s organisational structure, responsibilities and implementation roadmap.
The meeting was attended by Director General (Organisation) Swati Lakra, Inspector General (Road Safety) Ramesh Naidu, Inspector General (P&L) Gajarao Bhupal, Joint Commissioners of Police Sunpreet Singh and Joel Davis, among other senior police officers.
