Telangana Govt Welfare Schemes Reflect Legacy of NTR and Indira Gandhi: CM Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad, May 28 (TNT):Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday said several welfare initiatives of the Telangana Government reflected the legacy of legendary actor-politician N. T. Rama Rao and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Speaking after unveiling the statue of NTR at the busy Maitrivanam Junction in Ameerpet here on the occasion of the late leader’s birth anniversary, the Chief Minister recalled NTR’s contribution towards abolition of the Patel-Patwari system and said the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister had worked to restore dignity to poor and marginalised sections.
He said distribution of fine rice under the present government was a continuation of NTR’s iconic ₹2-per-kg rice scheme and added that welfare measures for women and political empowerment of weaker sections were also inspired by NTR’s governance model.
Referring to “three national gems” — Dr B. R. Ambedkar, Indira Gandhi and NTR, Revanth Reddy said all three leaders had made transformative contributions to the country.
Describing NTR as a leader symbolising integrity, honesty and determination, the Chief Minister remarked, “Indira Gandhi is a generation and NTR is an era.”
Describing the event as a memorable moment that would remain etched in his memory for life, Revanth Reddy said NTR was a leader admired across the country beyond caste, religion and regional boundaries.
“Unveiling the statue of NTR, affectionately called Anna, is not merely unveiling a statue but honouring an inspiration that rises above politics,” he said.
The Chief Minister strongly objected to criticism over installation of NTR’s statue by political opponents and took a dig at leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
He noted that former Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao was among the many leaders groomed under NTR’s leadership.
In an indirect swipe at BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, Revanth Reddy said leaders named after NTR criticising installation of his statue was ironic.
“There is no need to pay heed to the words of such impostors,” he remarked.
Highlighting the Congress government’s welfare agenda, the Chief Minister said the State had filled 65,000 government jobs and spent nearly ₹60,000 crore on women welfare programmes.
He reiterated that the government was working towards empowering one crore women to become millionaires and improving the economic status of farmers.
Revanth Reddy also said the proposed Bharat Future City would be developed over 30,000 acres in Hyderabad with participation from global companies to generate large-scale employment opportunities for youth.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the “People’s Government” would continue in power in Telangana till 2034.
