Telangana Governor Urges Students to Grow into ‘Mahavrikshas’ Through Education and Discipline
Hyderabad, June 24 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday likened students to saplings that can grow into mighty trees through proper nurturing, education, discipline and good values, and urged them to stay away from drugs and the harmful effects of excessive social media use.
Addressing a free notebook distribution programme organised by Bharat Sevashram Sangh (BSS) at the Lok Bhavan Community Hall here, the Governor said the future of students was intrinsically linked to the future of the nation.
“Every student is like a sapling. When nurtured with love, education, discipline and good conduct, they can grow into a mahavriksha and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
Drawing a parallel with a sapling he planted earlier in the day at the Lok Bhavan Government School campus, Shukla said just as a tree requires constant care and protection from harsh conditions, students too need guidance, quality education and protection from social evils.
The Governor called upon teachers and parents to ensure that children were safeguarded from drug abuse and the negative impact of social media while encouraging them to focus on academics, sports and creative activities.
Describing the Lok Bhavan Government School as a symbol of commitment towards educating children from marginalised sections, he said quality education remained the strongest instrument for social transformation.
Praising Bharat Sevashram Sangh, the Governor said the organisation’s motto, “Manava Seva Madhava Seva”, reflected its dedication to humanitarian service.
He commended its contributions in the fields of education, healthcare and disaster relief.
Referring to his recent participation in the Young India student kit distribution programme at LB Stadium, where he administered an anti-drugs pledge to thousands of students, Shukla reiterated the need for youth to remain focused on constructive pursuits.
He said the Telangana government was striving to transform the state into a hub for education and sports and cited the Young India Integrated Residential Schools initiative as an effort to provide equal educational opportunities to all students.
“The notebooks distributed today are not merely bundles of paper; they are the foundation for your dreams, confidence and future success,” he told the students.
The Governor also cited the example of 14-year-old cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi, saying his achievements demonstrated that age was no barrier to success when coupled with hard work, perseverance and self-belief.
Earlier, Shukla visited the Lok Bhavan Government High School, planted a sapling and interacted with children at an anganwadi centre before distributing notebooks to students.
Special Chief Secretary to the Governor M. Dana Kishore, Joint Secretary Sasikiranachari, Bharat Sevashram Sangh representatives Swami Munneswarananda and Swami Venkateswarananda, teachers and students attended the programme.
