Telangana Governor to inaugurate PRANAAM Day Care Centre for senior citizens on Tuesday

Hyderabad, July 20 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla will inaugurate the PRANAAM (Multi-Service Day Care Centre for Senior Citizens) at Masab Tank here on Tuesday, marking a significant initiative aimed at promoting active and dignified ageing.

The centre, established at the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) building with support from the Central and State Governments, has the capacity to cater to nearly 100 senior citizens at a time.

Designed as a one-stop facility for the elderly, the centre will provide regular health check-ups, essential medicines, nutritional support, health monitoring, mental health counselling, digital literacy training, awareness programmes on government welfare schemes, library facilities, indoor games, cultural activities, opportunities for social interaction and light refreshments.

According to officials, the Governor’s Office contributed Rs 13.57 lakh for developing the facility as a model day care centre, while the Hyderabad District Collector’s Office sanctioned Rs 11.57 lakh for renovation works and age-friendly infrastructure. The Government of India has also released the first instalment of Rs 12.43 lakh under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) for the project.

Officials said the centre aims to reduce loneliness among senior citizens, promote healthy and active ageing and provide an inclusive environment that enables the elderly to lead lives with dignity, security and social participation.

They said the PRANAAM Day Care Centre is expected to serve as a model for community-based senior citizen care while strengthening welfare initiatives for the elderly.
