Telangana DGP Anand Reviews Maoist Situation During Visit to SIB Headquarters
Hyderabad, May 18 (TNT): State Director General of Police (DGP) C. V. Anand on Monday visited the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) headquarters and interacted with officers and staff while reviewing the prevailing Maoist situation and ongoing anti-extremist operations in Telangana.
Vijay Kumar, Additional DGP ( Intelligence) and Kartikeya, IGP (Intelligence & SIB) were also present during the visit.
During the review, Anand assessed intelligence initiatives and anti-extremist measures undertaken by the SIB to address security concerns in the state.
He appreciated the sustained efforts of SIB officers and staff in countering Left-Wing Extremism and facilitating large-scale surrenders of underground CPI (Maoist) cadres.
According to police data, between 2024 and 2026, as many as 820 underground Maoist cadres surrendered before Telangana Police, including four Central Committee Members (CCMs), 22 State Committee Members (SCMs), one Regional Committee Member (RCM), 45 Divisional Committee Members (DVCMs) and 173 Area Committee Members (ACMs).
Police said a total of 334 firearms were also surrendered during the period, including 58 AK-47 rifles, 48 INSAS rifles, 50 SLRs, six LMGs and other sophisticated weapons.
The DGP commended the role played by the SIB in weakening the Maoist movement in Telangana through intelligence-based operations, confidence-building measures and rehabilitation initiatives.
He particularly appreciated efforts to encourage underground Maoist cadres to abandon violence and join the mainstream.
Reviewing rehabilitation measures for surrendered cadres, Anand assured continued support from the Telangana Police Department for their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
He instructed the SIB to closely monitor surrendered cadres and ensure reskilling, employment-oriented training, job placement and effective social integration.
Advising officers on the evolving security environment, the DGP said that with the decline of Maoism after four decades, the SIB should adapt to emerging challenges and take on a broader intelligence role by studying changing social patterns, social media trends and their impact on youth, public order and internal security in Telangana.
