Telangana: Coal shortage hits Yadadri thermal power generation
Hyderabad, Sept 23 (TNT): Power generation at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station has been affected due to a shortage of the required G9-grade coal, prompting the Telangana government to initiate steps to ensure adequate coal supplies and restore generation at full installed capacity before Dussehra.
During a high-level Energy department review on Wednesday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to procure G9-grade coal from Mahanadi Coalfields and Coal India to meet the plant’s requirements.
He also directed Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka to meet Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy and discuss arrangements for the supply of coal to the State.
Officials informed the meeting that Singareni currently does not have coal blocks capable of supplying the required G9-grade coal and there was no immediate possibility of producing the grade locally.
The Chief Minister directed TGGENCO officials to take all necessary measures to ensure that the Yadadri plant operates at its full installed capacity before the Dussehra festival.
