Telangana CM urges Centre to develop Warangal, Adilabad airports on international standards
New Delhi, July 14 (TNT) : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday urged Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu to ensure that the proposed airports at Warangal (Mamnoor) and Adilabad are developed with international standards and equipped with advanced facilities.
The Chief Minister held discussions with the Union Minister at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the Civil Aviation Ministry office in New Delhi, highlighting the strategic and commercial importance of the two airports for Telangana’s growth.
Revanth Reddy said Warangal’s connectivity through road and rail networks, along with the presence of Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, Kazipet Coach Factory and other industries, would make it a major economic hub once flight operations begin.
He said the Warangal airport could serve as a central aviation hub for the erstwhile Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam regions, besides Nalgonda district.
The Chief Minister requested the Centre to provide facilities including Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), air cargo and hangar services at the airport.
As land acquisition for the Warangal airport has already been completed, Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to invite tenders and begin construction at the earliest, with a target to complete the project and make it ready for inauguration by June 2, 2028.
During discussions on the airport design, the Chief Minister suggested that Warangal’s rich Kakatiya heritage and cultural identity should be reflected in the architecture.
Rammohan Naidu responded positively to the suggestion.
The Union Minister also assured that the proposal to establish a civil airport alongside the Defence-run facility in Adilabad would be considered.
Discussions were also held on setting up MRO, air cargo and hangar facilities at Adilabad airport, along with Flying Training Organisations (FTOs) at both Warangal and Adilabad airports.
Revanth Reddy also proposed examining the feasibility of operating seaplane services between Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad and Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada.
The Union Minister asked the state government to submit detailed proposals for the initiative.
Nalgonda MP Raghuveer Reddy, R&B Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, Government Advisor K. Ramakrishna Rao, Special Secretary (Coordination) Advait Kumar Singh, Civil Aviation Secretary Muralidhar Mohol and Airports Authority of India Chairman Vipin Kumar attended the meeting.
