Telangana CM Seeks Early Environmental Clearances for Key Irrigation Projects
New Delhi, Aug. 5 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged the Centre to accord early environmental clearances for the Palamuru-Rangareddy, Gauravelli, Seethamma Sagar and Dindi irrigation projects, stating that delays were affecting their completion and escalating project costs.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, met Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and sought immediate approvals for the pending projects.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy informed the Union Minister that the State Government had already spent ₹36,437 crore on the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, ₹3,187 crore on the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme, ₹1,835 crore on the Seethamma Sagar Project, and ₹1,350 crore on the Gauravelli Project.
He said the projects had been delayed due to the absence of environmental clearances, resulting in cost escalation, and urged the Centre to expedite approvals in the wake of the recent Supreme Court verdict.
The Union Minister was requested to grant the pending clearances at the earliest to facilitate completion of the irrigation projects.
Telangana MPs, State Government Special Representative in Delhi A.P. Jitender Reddy, Irrigation Advisor Adityanath Das, and senior Irrigation Department officials were present during the meeting.
