Telangana CM proposes Mega Growth Corridors to drive urban expansion in Telangana
Hyderabad, May 13 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday announced a series of major proposals aimed at accelerating urban development across Telangana, including the creation of Mega Growth Corridors, Temple and Tourism Corridors, renewable energy integration and long-term infrastructure planning for municipalities.
During a high-level review meeting with officials of the Municipal Administration and Roads and Buildings departments, the Chief Minister instructed authorities to prepare plans for the development of the Warangal-Karimnagar-Khammam corridor, Mahabubnagar-Bhoothpur-Jadcherla corridor and Kothagudem-Palvancha-Sujatha Nagar corridor.
Revanth Reddy said the Warangal-Karimnagar-Khammam corridor would play a crucial role in the future economic and urban development of the State.
As part of the urban infrastructure expansion programme, the Chief Minister directed officials to construct Outer Ring Roads for the municipal corporations of Khammam, Warangal and Karimnagar.
He emphasised that the proposed corridors should integrate towns through radial road connectivity while ensuring proximity to major municipalities. All infrastructure plans, he said, should be designed with a vision to meet the requirements of the next 25 years.
Calling for municipality-specific urban planning, the Chief Minister said solid waste management systems, wastewater treatment plants and renewable energy projects should form an integral part of urban infrastructure development.
He also instructed officials to adopt advanced technologies in underground drainage construction and promote the use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) to reduce operational expenditure. From now onwards, only EV vehicles should be hired for official purposes, he directed.
The Chief Minister further instructed that renewable energy generation facilities should be established at every urban location.
The meeting also discussed the installation of multi-utility towers to reduce radiation levels, smart poles across urban centres, AI-based traffic management systems and localised infrastructure planning based on population patterns of individual towns and cities.
Officials were also directed to make it mandatory to use only treated water sourced from the Sewage and Wastewater Management Board for all building construction activities.
Reviewing tourism and religious infrastructure projects, Revanth Reddy discussed plans for a Temple Corridor connecting Nalgonda and Yadadri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple as well as a Tourism Corridor linking Adilabad, Nagoba, Basara and the Kadem Project.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to upgrade the Jogulamba Temple ahead of the upcoming Krishna Pushkarams festival.
Referring to airport infrastructure development, Mr Revanth Reddy directed officials to ensure adequate water supply arrangements for the proposed Warangal airport project.
He said the proposed Adilabad airport was being developed by the Ministry of Defence and instructed officials to improve road connectivity to the new airports in view of the expected transformation of the surrounding regions.
The Chief Minister also directed authorities to integrate all municipalities falling under the jurisdiction of Singareni Collieries Company Limited into a single administrative unit and said CSR funds of the company should be utilised exclusively for local area development initiatives.
CMO Secretary Manik Raj, Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration Dr T.K. Sridevi, Director of Town and Country Planning Devender Reddy and other senior officials attended the meeting.
