Telangana CM orders Green Channel release of compensation to SC, ST sexual assault victims
Hyderabad, Sept 22 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to release compensation to victims of sexual assault belonging to SC and ST communities through a ‘Green Channel’ for speedy disbursement.
The Chief Minister chaired a meeting of the State-level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee on implementation of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, where the implementation of the Act, registered cases, investigations, trials, case resolution and assistance and rehabilitation provided to victims were reviewed.
According to the Chief Minister’s office, the state-level high-power Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting was held under the Chief Minister’s chairmanship for the first time since the formation of Telangana.
Revanth said the government was responding to incidents of sexual assault on humanitarian grounds and stressed the need to ensure support to victims.
He highlighted welfare measures for SC and ST communities and said the government was implementing schemes aimed at improving their socio-economic conditions.
The Chief Minister said the government was allocating funds in proportion to population demographics and cited the distribution of Indiramma houses among SC and ST beneficiaries.
He said 31 per cent of the beneficiaries of Indiramma houses were Dalits and 17 per cent were Scheduled Tribes.
He also said breakfast was being provided to 27.5 lakh students from nursery to Class 12 across the state.
Revanth recalled former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s distribution of assigned land titles covering 25 lakh acres to SC and ST communities.
Emphasising the importance of education, the Chief Minister said quality education was essential for addressing the problems faced by marginalised communities.
He appealed to SC and ST communities to encourage children to pursue education and sports and called for working towards their development beyond political considerations.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, Government Advisor Shabbir Ali, MPs, MLAs and MLC Gorati Venkanna, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, DGP C V Anand, representatives of the SC/ST Commissions and senior officials attended the meeting.
